Introduction

Have you been beating yourself up because you think that being overweight is some type of predisposition? Do you think that you have failed to lose weight because of an innate character flaw, which has caused you to be a weak-willed unhealthy eater? Please stop thinking like this right now. It’s not your fault! There has been more than enough research that proves that your never-ending cravings have more to do with chemistry than fate or character. Having cravings is a natural part of life, but eating certain types of foods has caused these cravings to be heightened. These foods have caused chemical and hormonal imbalances within you. These imbalances have influenced your behaviour. What you think is your lack of self-discipline or willpower is simply the knock-on effect of these imbalances.
Our diets have almost been completely taken over by unnatural processed foods. These foods are making many of us fatter and sicker year by year.
Cancer is killing people at an alarming rate. There have also been incredible increases in heart disease and type II diabetes. At the turn of the 20th century these diseases were considered rare, but have now become commonplace. For the most part, diet and lifestyle are at the root of these diseases.

Here are some interesting facts about obesity and being overweight provided by the World Health Organization:

  • Worldwide obesity has nearly doubled since 1980
  • In 2008, more than 1.4 billion adults, 20 and older, were overweight. Of these, over 200 million men and nearly 300 million women were obese
  • 35% of adults aged 20 and over were overweight in 2008, and 11% were obese
  • 65% of the world's population lives in countries where overweight and obesity kills more people than underweight
  • More than 40 million children under the age of five were overweight in 2011
  • Obesity is preventable

Running my own fitness business and helping my clients to achieve their fitness goals has been extremely rewarding, but it does have limitations. I have always wanted to reach a wider audience. I wrote this guide for the frustrated people in gyms who are constantly exercising and wondering why they aren’t getting results; for the people making poor choices when they go grocery shopping; for the people making poor choices when they eat out; for the misinformed and the uninformed. I wrote this guide for you.
